A: Part I – River morphology

  1. Formation of river-bed (river-course) in natural condition, River-bends, meandering rivers.

  2. River-bed stability - criterions.

  3. Water movement in rivers. Structure of turbulent flow. Velocity distribution in a river cross-section.

  4. River flow as uniform flow, General consideration. Sequence of hydraulic calculation of free water surface.

  5. River flow as non-uniform flow, General consideration. Methods for hydraulic calculation of free water surface in natural rivers.

  6. Hydraulic calculation of bifurcations and confluences, cutoffs and bottle necks, backwaters.

  7. Transversal circulation of river flows. Graphical presentation of river-flow dynamics.

  8. Sediments. Sediment characteristics and classification.

  9. Sediment movement in rivers. Suspended load and bed load definitions. formulae.

  10. Suspended load equilibrium concentration. Transport formulae. Bed-form and alluvial roughness.

  11. River-bed deformation - erosion and accumulation.

  12. Prediction of general scour and local scour around bridge piers.


B: Part II – River training works

  1. Planning and design of training works. Stages of design procedures

  2. Plane geometry of regulated river channels. Longitudinal profile and determination of equalized bed slope-general principles.

  3. Hydraulic dimensioning of normal regularization (design) cross section. Stable cross-section of sand-bed rivers.

  4. Specification of construction materials for river regulation structures.

  5. Specification of elements of structures for river regulation works.

  6. Design of channel rectification, fixation and constriction - longitudinal and transversal structures.

  7. Design and construction of riverbed stabilization structures-revetments and bed fixation sills.

  8. River regulation peculiarities of navigable rivers

  9. Stream guiding systems utilizing transversal circulation.

  10. Principles of flood control. Design of flood protection works.

  11. Gully (Gulch) stabilization works.

  12. Environmental problems in river training works.
