ORAL PRESENTATIONS
NUCLEAR ENERGETIC AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION

Georgi Vasilev
"Ядрената енергетика и устойчивото развитие на човешката цивилизация"
Sustainable development  refers to a mode of human society organisation  in which resource use is directed toward human needs for life standard increase while ensuring a sustainability of environmental natural systems ant its preservation for present and for future generations.

The concept of sustainable development appears on the society scene on the second half of XX century and has been intensively developed around the end of XX century and the beginning of XXI century after the final end of “cold war” era.

Energetics (also called energy economics) concerns production and utility of energy as a part of common strategy of Sustainable Development . It is dealing both with economics and ecology. Sustainable development ties together concern for the carrying capacity of natural systems /climat, natural resources, population, biological variability / with the social challenges faced by humanity

More and more data and opinions are pilled up stressing Nuclear Energetics as the most adequate human action in economy responding to requirements of Sustainable development that are valid for present and future generations.

In the book the Author analyses present characteristics of the Nuclear Energy Economics and discusses its close and far perspectives. He exposes the issues on new generations nuclear power reactors, new kind of fuel cycles and nuclear fuel, thermonuclear synthesis, actions dealing with used nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.

The book is addressed to a wide audience of readers such as profile experts / power engineers, economists, sociologists, ecologists/ as well as politicians, journalists, students and pupils.

MACEDONIAN NUCLEAR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Nikola Popov, Igor Ilijovski, Vladimir Popovski

AD Macedonain Power Plants – ELEM,

Skopje, R. Macedonia
Over the past decades nuclear energy has been proven as reliable and economical energy supply that is capable of meeting demanding energy market requirements. Many countries around the world consider entering into new nuclear energy programs and building new power reactors for satisfying their increasing electrical energy needs in the long term. However, a nuclear power program is a major undertaking requiring careful planning, preparation and investment in time and human resources for building adequate nuclear infrastructure. Preparations for making a decision to enter into a new nuclear energy program requires a significant amount of financial and human resources, time, and assistance from already developed countries and international nuclear organizations. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from Vienna provides technical help, financial assistance, and documented knowledge that are important for countries facing the challenge of entering nuclear programs for the first time. The IAEA organizes technical courses and information exchange meetings for new countries at which experiences and lessons learned are provided to new countries.

This paper describes the planning activities for making a decision to enter a new nuclear energy program. It describes the efforts currently being conducted in the Republic of Macedonia in the direction of collecting information, performing various feasibility studies, and engaging in regional cooperation for utilizing experiences of the regional countries in performing such activities, and in developing their nuclear power programs. This paper also provides an overview of the IAEA documents and recommendations that are relevant for this topic, and discusses some of the aspects of the Macedonian feasibility project currently funded by the IAEA in the 2014-15 cycle.

MACEDONIAN TRANSMISSION GRID CAPABILITY AND DEVELOPMENT
*Kliment NAUMOSKI, *Elena ACHKOSKA, **Aleksandar PAUNOSKI

*MEPSO, Macedonia,

**ELEM, Macedonia
The main task of the transmission grid is to guarantee evacuation of electricity from production facilities and, at the same time, supply the electricity to all customers, in a secure, reliable and qualitative manner. During the last years, transmission grid goes through the period of fast and important development, as a result of implementation of renewables and new technologies and creation of internal European electricity market. Due to these reasons, capacity of the existing grid needs to be upgraded either with optimization of existing infrastructure or constructing the new transmission projects. Among the various solutions for strengthening the grid, the one with the minimal investment expenses for construction is selected.

While planning the national transmission grid, MEPSO planners apply multi-scenarios analyses, in order to handle all uncertainties, particularly in the forecasts on loads, production and exchange of electricity, location and size of the new power plants, hydrological conditions, integration of renewable sources and the evolution of the electricity market. Visions for development of European transmission grid are also considered. Special attention in the development plan is paid to modelling of power systems in the region of South-Eastern Europe and covering a wider area of the regional transmission grid with simulations of various market transactions. Macedonian transmission grid is developed to satisfy all requirements for electricity production/supply and transits, irrespective which scenario will be realized on long-term basis.

Transmission development plan gives the roadmap for grid evolution from short-term and mid-term period towards long-term horizons (15-20 years ahead). While creating long-term visions, a big challenge in front of transmission planners is implementation of NPP.

The paper gives overview of the planning process of Macedonian transmission grid, comprising: definition of scenarios, planning methodology and assessment of transmission system adequacy. Capabilities of connection of NPP to the transmission grid on a long-term horizon are highlighted.
