Explanatory notes concerning the top 40 partners of Bulgaria

The countries are listed in descending order on the basis of the average exports for the last 4 years - 2000 to 2003

The diversification of BG trade is defined by number of product groups (6-digit HS provides for worldwide comparability), including agricultural and industrial products that are imported or exported or as a share of the total number of Bulgarian export of agricultural and industrial products

Total data for the number of product groups take into account the single presance of a product group in trade with any of the countries
-
Data for companies, accounting for 75% in USD terms in exports or imports are for the period 2000-2002
-
Data for FDI are from the BNB - www.bnb.bg. Data by countries differ from data provided by Bulgarian FIA - www.bfia.bg

The number of Bulgarian legal entities with foregn share between 5% and 100% in the capital of the Bulgarian legal entity have been provided on the basis of registration promulgated in the State Gazette up to april 2004 .

Data for EU, CEFTA and Balkan countries cover only countries that are among the top 40 partners. A country may be listed twice - for example Greece is included in EU and Balkan countries, Romania and Croatia - in CEFTA and Balkan countries.

Concentration indicators. They fall withing the limits shawn in brakets. Interpretation - those close to the lowest limit - 0, provide for lack of trade concentration in one or several countries, and opposite when the calculations are close to the highest limit - 1.

Total data for the number of companies take into account the single presance of the company in trade with any of the countries.

In the sheet "USD" data are shown in absolute figures in number or USD, while sheet "%" contains the share of the total in per centage.

Table has been prepared by the team of experts from the Bulgarian Industrial Association and the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy in April 2004.
