И преди си мислех, че това е защото колежът не иска или не може да приеме толкова много хора от моята държава, но след това си дадох сметка, че това не е проблемът. Проблемът, ако може да се нарече проблем разбира се, е защото сега България е част oт Европеийския съюз, което ни дава много привилегии, но иронията е в това, че привилегиите са по-скоро за хората, които живеят извън България във друга държава от Европеийския съюз. И сега всички българи, които искат да учат в университет в която и да е държава в Европейския съюз, плащат много по-малка такса за обучение – много по-малка отколкото чуждестранни студенти, които идват от държави извън Европейския съюз, и много по-малка в сравнение с таксите, които се плащат в американските университети. Освен това, освен че образованието е … цените на образованието са по-достъпни, другият фактор, който предполагам, че много българи вземат под внимание, е, че за европейския университет е много по-лесно да се кандидатства. Сега знам че след една година едва ли ще се върна. Просто възможностите за работа, които ще имам тук, въпреки че икономическата ситуация е доста лоша, но възможностите, които ще имам тук са много, много по-големи от възможностите, които бих имала в България. И не говоря само за заплащане, а и за самата работа, която бих вършила и за отговорностите, които биха ми дали в една фирма в Щатите в сравнение с тези в България. Просто в момента ситуацията в България е много лоша и е много трудно за един млад специалист да се осъвършенства и да намери работа, която ще му даде възможност да бъде независим. Така че това е може би главната причина, поради която бих казала не – може би в следващите няколко години няма да се върна, но определено мога да се видя в България във бъдещето. Интервюиращ: Да. Благодаря ти. Алекс: Моля. English translation: Alex: Every year, there are fewer Bulgarian girls [who come] to Mount Holyoke, unfortunately. I used to think that the reason was that the College did not want or could not accept too many people from my country, but after that I realized that was not the problem. The problem – if one can call that a problem, of course – is found in the fact that Bulgaria is now part of the European Union, which gives us many privileges, but the irony is that those privileges are mostly for people who live outside of Bulgaria in some other country in the European Union. And nowadays, most Bulgarians who want to go to college in any country in the European Union pay considerably lower tuition – considerably lower compared to international students who come from countries outside of the European Union; considerable lower compared to the tuition that one would pay [to go to] an American college. Other than that, other than education being… education costs being more affordable, another factor that I think many Bulgarians take into account is that applying to a European college is much easier [than applying to college in the U.S.]. You don not have to take exams like the SAT, you do not have to write as many essays I guess, actually, I have never applied to college in Europe, so perhaps I should not give such strong opinions, but as a whole, I am under the impression that it is a lot harder to get accepted into an American college than into one in Europe. I guess that many people take those two factors into account when deicing the choose Europe. Another plus, of course, is that European countries are much closer to home, it is much easier to go back even for the weekend, so I am guessing that this trend will persist into the future and fewer Bulgarians will be coming to my college. Despite that, like I said before, I am very happy that I chose to go here. I have had incredible experiences and I still have another year left in college. I have no idea what will happen after that, but that is both scary and wonderful. So I would recommend that other Bulgarians come here and have experiences similar to mine. Interviewer: Thank you very much. Alex: You are welcome. Interviewer: Do you want to go back to Bulgaria? Have you thought about that? Alex: I have definitely thought [about this], especially my first year when I came here, it was very difficult for me, because even though you appreciate what has happened to you and are very happy about all of the opportunities, you miss your family, you are thousands of kilometers away from home, and you just want to go back, you feel that your home is there. Right now, I know that I probably will not go back home after a year. The opportunities for work that I will have here, even though the economic situation is very bad, the opportunities that I will have here are much, much bigger than those that I would have in Bulgaria. It's just that the situation in Bulgaria is very bad at the moment, and it's very difficult for a young professional to further their knowledge and find a job that will allow him or her to be independent. So, this is probably the main reason why the answer is no - maybe I won't go back for the next few years or so, but I do see myself living in Bulgaria in the future. Interviewer. Yes. Thank you.
