PREFACE
This book targets a large audience, including specialists in insurance and assurance business, actuaries, health managers, managers of insurance and assurance companies, representatives form Мinistry of Health and Ministry of Social Affairs, assurance institutions, specialists in the fields of medicine, social and assurance affairs, public administration, social medicine and health management, as well as graduate and postgraduate students of medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, etc.
The first part discusses the position, role, and the functions of assurance in social life, along with a concise analysis of the global trends and global social health environment.
The second part focuses on the terminology used in assurance sector and the legislative framework in this field. The application of the systematic analysis of assurance, the evaluation criteria for assurance schemes, the current politic-economic models, and the similarities and differences between assurance and insurance, are all introduces and discussed. Applicable European legislation is presented in this part as well.
The principles in mandatory and voluntary assurance, along with assurance rights, have been analyzed in detail in the third part of the book.
The fourth section examines the existing theoretical models in health and pension assurance, while the next looks at the application practices of these models in 28 countries in Europe and the rest of the world.
The sixth section investigates the health and pension assurance systems in Bulgaria and discusses the risks and challenges they face.
The last chapter considers the roles and functions of business in the spheres of health and pension assurance.
This book does not examine the theory and practices of health risk management, which are directly related to the principles and policies of health and pension assurance and the quality and safety of the provided health services. These will be the focus of another publication.
