Conference on Climate Change, 12-14 November, Paris


The Europaeum is organising a graduate research workshop on The Politics and Economics of from Climate Change: Lessons for European diplomacy hosted at the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. This three-day programme will investigate the European and international approaches to climate change politics, focusing on its political economy, geography and diplomacy. This is deliberately being organised two weeks before the the new round of international negotiations in Cancun (COP16). Participants will review key issues that followed the aftermath 2009 failed Copenhagen summit (COP15) and look at problems in reaching a binding and global treaty. Speakers will include Pierre Beckouche, professor of physical geography, Paris 1, Lydie Goeldner-Gianella, lecturer, Paris 1, and others from the OECD and UN.

The event will comprise the usual series of lectures, discussions, and presentations of participants’ papers. The working language will be English. Please note that all costs are covered for Europaeum graduates, though participants must cover their own travel costs. The workshop is open to all graduates, notably from: Law, Economics, Politics, History, Geography, International Relations, and other relevant disciplines. The Enterprise Europe Network London is organising an “Innovation Management Course” to be held in London (United Kingdom), on 15th-16th November 2010.

The course aims to provide an outline of current innovation thinking and tailored advice and tools that are appropriate for SMEs. It will include presentations and opportunities to discuss current theories and share best practices through workshops and breakout sessions. It is designed for technology-based companies, universities and research organisations in London.

Copenhagen (Denmark), 18th November 2010: How to Negotiate and Administer FP7

EuroCenter, The Danish Agency of Science and Innovation, is organising the course “How to Negotiate and Administer FP7”, to be held in Copenhagen (Denmark) on 18th November 2010.

The aim of this one-day course is to train research managers and administrators how to negotiate and administer 7th Framework Programme Grant Agreements. The main topics of the Course are: from the proposal to the final payment; the consortium; how to work with the European Commission; negotiating the grant agreement; model grant agreement; contractual deadlines in FP7 projects; claims in FP7; the financial audit.

The course will be held in English.

Sophia Aniopolis (France), 18th-19th November 2010: 6th edition of Competitiveness Cluster Forum

The Foundation Sophia Antiopolis, with co-financing of the European Commission, is organising the “6th edition of Competitiveness Cluster Forum - International Cooperation and Funding Devices” to be held in Sophia Antiopolis (France) on 18th-19th November 2010.

The Forum is a major international event on industrial innovation and support for young innovative companies. This year’s edition will focus on "International Cooperation and Financing Strategies”. The first day will focus on the internationalisation of clusters and competitiveness clusters in Europe and initial funding. Its first session will be dedicated to international cooperation (best practices of development strategies), while the second will concentrate on public/private funding. The second day will focus on "European Initiatives for the Internationalisation of Clusters".

2010 Classics Colloquium – Krakow -19th-21st November 2010

The theme for the 2010 Classics Colloquium will be Death and Afterlife, encompassing a range of subjects and areas of research: linguistics, literature, culture, religion, philosophy, archaeology, art history etc. Classics graduate scholars from half our Europaeum member universities are already set to take part at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow. But we are still actively seeking colleagues from Helsinki, and our Classics link partners Paris IV and Geneva University, plus additional participants from Prague and Oxford.  Lectures will be delivered by scholars from Krakow, Leiden and Madrid. Brussels (Belgium), 22nd November 2010: IPR in ICT standardisation

The European Commission and the European Patent Office are organising a conference on “Tensions between IPR and the ICT standardisation process: reasons and remedies” to be held in Brussels (Belgium), on 22nd November 2010.

The conference’s objective is to find policy solutions for the current tensions between the intellectual property rights (IPR) and the information communication technologies (ICT) standardisation processes. Specifically, the following topics will be discussed: Who needs standards-related patent registers and how should they look? Is there a need to improve the quality of standards-related patents and how can we do it? How should ex-ante commitments of licensing terms be drafted? How can we ensure certainty on the availability and continuity of essential IP rights for licensing? What is the best relationship between standards and open source software and freely available technologies?

The Enterprise Europe Network B2Europe West Poland is organising a brokerage event “Transnational Technology Transfer Day POLEKO 2010” to be held in Poznań (Poland), on 24th November 2010.

The event will take place in the framework of the International Trade Fair of Environmental Protection POLEKO 2010. It is a unique platform for contractors from Eastern and Western Europe to meet.

The Academy of European Law (ERA) is organising a “Conference on European Intellectual Property Law 2010” to be held in Trier (Germany) on 2nd and 3rd December 2010.

The objective of this conference is to address various legal aspects of the most recent developments in both jurisprudence and legislation in the field of EU industrial property law. European Union. The High-Level Group on Scientific Data presented report on ‘Riding the Wave: How Europe can gain from the rising tide of scientific data’.

Following an intensive consultation with experts around the world to prepare a ‘vision 2030’ for scientific Data e-Infrastructures, the High-Level Group on Scientific Data published a report on “Riding the Wave: How Europe can gain from the rising tide of scientific data”.



The group composed of twelve top-level European experts sets forth scenarios for the future and calls for the development of a global comprehensive e-infrastructure for scientific data. It expects the system to allow researchers in different fields to collaborate on the same data, share views and bring insights. Within the framework, scientists might use, re-use and combine data to improve productivity.
